Whale Sightings Report Thursday 14th July 2011

Found whales by 9.30, 4 pods this morning, one pod of 3 close in off Coolangatta Bar, another pod off to the right, giving us a couple of breaches, we followed the two pods north, whilst keeping an eye on other pods coming up from behind off to the left, at one stage we had all four pods off to the left of the boat all swiming in a line, what a sight!!  The two later pods joined up and began chasing and playing in towards Kirra.

Great morning, whales everywhere

The afternoon trip, 5 pods with 11 whales, first pod in close off the Coolangatta bar, tail lobbing and the second pod doing the same thing – having a chat!!

Our third pod had 2 adults and a brand new baby, they were very quiet in the water and we noticed the calf just near mum and we left them to travel north on the Gold Coast

Our next pod really got everyone excited, two very inquisitive whales straight to the boat, swiming around us, behind us, and then kept on coming back to the boat several times – fantastic whales

Another pod around 2.30pm breaching.  Weather turned quickly from the south and we headed home.  Great Day
