Whale Watching Coolangatta/Tweed Heads Fri 19th Sept 08
The weather on the Gold Coast was overcast today for our humbpack whales, but the sea was reasonably calm with a slight chop on the top. We came across whales nearly straight away, only minutes from Pt. Danger and Coolangatta, all heading south. No activity, all pods were busy travelling. We encountered 6 pods in total, with 2 in each, bar one which had a cow, calf and escort. One dolphin came to the boat for a short time. Two whales came from nowhere and surprised us right next to the boat – giving everyone on board the opportunity to take some great photos, as quickly as they came, they left again.
All in all, a great day out, still 100% sucess in seeing whales on every trip, we are still only in the early stages of the southern migration and the school holidays should see loads of whales to entertain all our school children – education whilst on holidays – now thats cool !!
This has been Carol – ‘The Whale Women’ until tomorrow
