School hols are a buzzin here on the Gold Coast, the whales are out, sun shining – what a life!!!  We headed out this morning and before we were even out of the river Tony was calling ‘WHALES’ and sure enough a pod just off the D Bar.  The pod of two were diving for extended periods, so we left this pair and headed out to a breaching whale – we arrived to be greeted by a calf, cow and escort having a ‘Whale of a time !!!’ sorry had to say that !!  We spent time with them whilst the escort laid on his back with both pectorals waiving around continuously, then we had the bub practicing his breaching this continued for some time, then School was in – time to teach young one how to pectoral fin slap, roll over, tail lob on his back and tummy – what a picture – as his mum did it, so did the bub – it was truly magical.

A great day out with the humpback whales off Coolangatta/Tweed Heads the only place to see the best whales on the Gold Coast !!!

This has been Carol the ‘Whale Women’ until tomorrow.
