The sea is still nice and settled with conditions perfect for whale watching.  This mornings trip was as good as the rest if not better, with one pod of humpbacks consisting of 3 whales travelling slowly north. One of the pod breached several times for us, rolling over pectoral fin slapping.  We came across another pod and the two pods joined up and had a bit of a play.  Very nice indeed the passengers were very excited.

On the way in we came across another pod breaching just off Coolangatta at Point Danger.

All in all a great day out, still 100% success every day this season the whales have been awesome!!

Yes – another beautiful day off the Coolangatta/Tweed Heads Coastline – we headed out at 9am, the passengers were excited, the whales were out a bit further today, but once we got there (which only took us 30 minutes) we enjoyed several pods moving around slowly.  They were mostly travelling south with one or two pods making their way north.  No calves today.  We were entertained by one humpback laying on his side pectrol fin slapping, some magic tail shots and the ever popular breach !! Wow what a day – in all well over a dozen whales on our magical experience.  On the way back in over the bar, just there, two whales right near the mouth of the river – how lucky are we?

Yes – another day of perfect Gold Coast weather, calm seas, little or no wind and plenty of sunshine.  Today we came across another Humpback new born calf with her mum just off the Coolangatta Coastline, around 9.30am this morning.  Mum and calf appeared to be doing well, just sitting under the surface in rest mode, she was heading north very slowly – so another birth off The Tweed/Coolangatta/Gold Coast, we estimate the calf to be under 3 days old.  Not wishing to overstay our welcome, we left her in peace and headed out to sea where we came across a single Humpback making it’s way home to the Antarctic.  This whale was quite relaxed and travelled along at 4 knots.  He came very close to the boat several times having a look at us and continued on his way, giving us one big breach at the end of our trip.

Last Sunday we came across two very curious whales, really enjoying our company, well Julie King, a guest on board has sent us this picture - how cool is this !!!  How excited was I !!!

Yet another lovely day off Coolangatta, plenty of sunshine, no wind and calm seas.  Today we came across three humpback whales going north, travelling rather quickly and then two other pods heading south, not terribly interested in us at all and were diving for extended periods. No activity this morning either which was unusual as we normally have whales breaching – not today – probably their rest day !!

Everyone enjoyed the day out, happy humpbacks and good Gold Coast weather – a bit cool on the water this morning.

The Whale Women

Another magnificant day out on the water just off the beautiful Coolangatta Coast line. Today you couldn’t have asked for better conditions as the sea was dead calm, no wind and plenty of Gold Coast Sunshine. We headed out at 9am and within 30 minutes were viewing our first pod of Humpback Whales, then there was another and another and another – pods everywhere, some heading North and some heading South and some just happy to play around the entire trip – this pod was very social going from one pod to another the entire time. The playful pod visited within meters of the boat several times, just close enough to let us see how magnificant these mammals really are.

Everyone on board were just amazed at how many whales we had on our trip today, we estimated more than 20 humpback whales of which we had a cow and calf on their way back to the Antarctic – awesome stuff indeed.

The Southern migration is in full swing now and the calves are just starting to come through – peak time for Gold Coast – Tweed Coast whale watching

Another fantastic day whale watching off the Gold Coast, today conditions were calm and glorious.  We came across a couple of whales happily heading south, only 3-4 miles off Coolangatta, then we spotted several more pods and off we went, well, we were blessed yet again by many whales, two pods joined together and came over to the boat a few times, the crowd again getting very excited.  All up, today we possibly saw in excess of 12 whales heading south and on the way home we came across another two pods heading north, they were breaching about 500 meters off Banora Point – wow! what a day and we saw dolphins plus an unidentified whale that we suspect was a Minke, this whale was around this area yesterday too – he was a bit too quick to let us watch him, but we got a pretty good view of his dorsal fin.

Carol – the Whale Women !!!

This week has seen plenty of action on the Gold Coast from our fabulous Humpback Whales, we are nearing the end of the Northern migration but that hasn’t slowed up the pods coming through.  We are now starting to see the Gentle Giants of the Sea heading back to the Antarctic, whilst there is still plenty of whales  heading North.

Over the last three days we have had some of the best whale watching this season with our first new borne  of the season on Monday with mum coming to the boat with her calf, she proudly showed off her calf, she was jumping for joy as we think her little calf was only days old – yes borne here on the Tweed Coast this week!!! 

On Sunday we had two adult humpbacks very curious indeed, spy hoping the boat several times only meters away, having a good look at us – needles to say the boat was alive with screams of joy that day and today a very special whale lazing around on it’s back, pectrol fin slapping, tale lobbing and breaching in the calm waters off Coolangatta not in any hurry to go north – absolutley fabulous stuff. 

Keep an eye on this page, I will update daily.  The weather has been sensational, with calm sea conditions and light winds still a little cool but mostly warm and sunny – PERFECT WHALE WATCHING CONDITIONS
