School hols are a buzzin here on the Gold Coast, the whales are out, sun shining – what a life!!!  We headed out this morning and before we were even out of the river Tony was calling ‘WHALES’ and sure enough a pod just off the D Bar.  The pod of two were diving for extended periods, so we left this pair and headed out to a breaching whale – we arrived to be greeted by a calf, cow and escort having a ‘Whale of a time !!!’ sorry had to say that !!  We spent time with them whilst the escort laid on his back with both pectorals waiving around continuously, then we had the bub practicing his breaching this continued for some time, then School was in – time to teach young one how to pectoral fin slap, roll over, tail lob on his back and tummy – what a picture – as his mum did it, so did the bub – it was truly magical.

A great day out with the humpback whales off Coolangatta/Tweed Heads the only place to see the best whales on the Gold Coast !!!

This has been Carol the ‘Whale Women’ until tomorrow.

Conditions too rough on Saturday – no trip

Sunday – A reasonably quiet day from our humpback whales – we had plenty of whales around 8 pods with 2 in each pod, bar one which had one whale – we believe they were all having a rest day – no activity to speak of.  The lone whale gave us a couple of breaches and one other some pectoral fin slapping – the rest – all resting peacefully.  A great day out off the Gold Coast with plenty of Humpbacks.  No calves today.  Sea conditions were good compared to yesterday.

Monday – the spring weather off Coolangatta was pleasant, straight off we had one breaching whale over near Cook Island, pod of two, out wider another pod slowly moving in a southerly direction, as the morning passed more whales coming down from the North.  One pod had three, last year calf, very large adult and a smaller one – around 10 metres. Another pod travelling North !! Another pod happily playing over near Cook Island again and this time we were blessed with a new calf – around 2 months old – practicing it’s breaching – over and over and over – around mum – what a delight, not travelling south, but out to sea enjoying the choppy conditions – excellent day out – 100% success in seeing whales

Lost 3 days due to high winds and rough seas.

Fri 25th – had two trips today – quite difficult to find them in the morning, but eventually came across whales off Coolangatta.  The afternoon trip was excellent – on our way out to sea, we came across 100′s of dolphins – what a sight as they came to the boat and stayed with us for over 10 minutes then we headed out to breaching whales who were showing off with double breaches, pectoral fin and tail slapping and a very relaxed whale that swam within meters of our boat a few times – pods joined up and there was loads of fun to be had.  We headed back to Coolangatta and we came across the dolphins yet again, same again heaps of them to the boat !!

Sat 27th – two trips with very calm seas – like a pond in fact – whales not at all active, just happy swimming along in a southerly direction and quite slowly.  This trip we had around 8 pods with two in each pod all very quiet. No calves.  The afternoon trip, once again like a pond, the sun was out the conditions perfect, had around 4 pods but all diving for extended periods then we had a cow, calf and escort, the little one happily breaching, we estimated he was around 2 months old.  A great day out.

Today Sun 28th – here’s that wind again – no trip

There are plenty of whales going past, not a lot of calves so far and they seem to be slow in their travel off Coolangatta, they seem very restful and relaxed and certainly not in any hurry.

This has been Carol ‘The Whale Women’ till next time.

The weather on the Gold Coast was overcast today for our humbpack whales, but the sea was reasonably calm with a slight chop on the top.  We came across whales nearly straight away, only minutes from Pt. Danger and Coolangatta, all heading south.  No activity, all pods were busy travelling.  We encountered 6 pods in total, with 2 in each, bar one which had a cow, calf and escort.  One dolphin came to the boat for a short time.  Two whales came from nowhere and surprised us right next to the boat – giving everyone on board the opportunity to take some great photos, as quickly as they came, they left again.

All in all, a great day out, still 100% sucess in seeing whales on every trip, we are still only in the early stages of the southern migration and the school holidays should see loads of whales to entertain all our school children – education whilst on holidays – now thats cool !!

No trip Wed – too rough and windy.

Today, Thursday – well – oh my god!  How many whales do you want, today off the coast of Coolangatta we were blessed with around 30 Humpback Whales all FEEDING !! yes that’s right – feeding and what a sight – we had dolphins and birds and whales everywhere!!!  The sea was calm, no wind and the sun came out just for us, we spotted one pod about 3 miles off Coolangatta, this pair were very quiet and down time was quite long, so we left this pair and headed out to about 4 miles where we could see 2 or 3 pods close together heading north – when we arrived, there were more pods and more pods and then some more – we had a heap of dolphins and one whale on it’s own that we believed was a pilot whale.  We spent the rest of the trip surrounded by around 25-30 whales all feeding, huffing and puffing – they were very happy with themselves, then we were blessed once again with a breaching whale and some tail lobbing.  What a day – so many whales, not travelling but feeding.  Plenty of bait fish around this morning.  Spectacular indeed.  No calves today

Our 100% guaranteed whales – stands firm – no misses in 2 years !!

No trip on Monday, too windy.

Today, Tuesday a nice day on the Gold Coast Water, warm weather is upon us.  The whales were hard to find today, the smoke haze didn’t make it easy for us.  We eventually came across a cow and our first calf – yeh ha !! with an escort travelling south slowly.  We travelled miles looking for whales, but patience paid off with our excellent find.  We are now just in the early stages of the calves coming through – how exciting.

Those beautiful humpback whales are flowing through thick and fast past Coolangatta this weekend, plenty of activity with over a dozen pods with us throughout our morning trip on Saturday, with some breaching from a couple of pods, all whales travelling south.  Today Sunday, conditions sloppy out to sea as was yesterday, but still plenty of whales, today the humpbacks were travelling North and South, mostly playing with some rolling over and plenty of tails for all to see.  Heaps of whales again today, probably in excess of a dozen pods again.

Today, I have chosen a great image from one of our previous trips off the Gold Coast Aug 08

Plenty of humpback whales today off the Gold Coast, we viewed in excess of 12 pods this morning, all travelling slowly in a southerly direction, with some pods back tracking to other pods coming through.  The Humpbacks were being very social today and not in a hurry.

Sea conditions were sloppy but produced excellent whale watching this morning.  Still no sign of any calves.  The whales were in close to Coolangatta today out to a maximum of 4 miles, all pod of 2 healthy humpbacks.

Yes – it’s another fantastic day here on the Gold Coast for Whales – yeh ha we had around 25 whales today – calm sea, no wind, plenty of sunshine and great muffins and donuts by the way !! We headed out and straight away Tony was onto the whales – ‘there she blows’ he yells from the top deck – excitement building – wow how much fun is this !!  We couldn’t believe how many whales we had seen by the end of our trip, started off slow and gradually there were pods everywhere – over there – over here – behind us – in front of us – we’re surrounded by beauty (and it was’nt me !!) these whales were so occupied with each other today, didn’t have too much time for us whale watchers, but we could see them having so much fun and enjoying themselves, some pods had 4-5 whales at a time, others with one, they joined up, a bit of pushing and shoving and then two pods started breaching, together , now this is too much fun !!  That’s enough info for one day

This has been Carol – The Whale Women – until tomorrow !!!  Another pic from one of our fantastic adventures – one happy customer !! Great T shirt

Monday bought very calm conditions, no wind, no swell and plenty of sunshine and plenty of whales – ALL RESTING !! we spotted 6 pods all slowly moving south with no activity, they were just coasting along, then we spotted an active pod and off we went and were delighted with a breaching whale who rolled over giving us a great show – I suppose every whale needs a rest day !!

Tuesday bought sloppy seas but FANTASTIC whales – we had double breaching, tail lobbing, pectoral fin slapping, two whales joining us nice and close to the boat, to the delight of all on board – a great day out !!  Still 100% SUCCESS no misses in 2 years !!!  Whales every day.

No calves yet – patiently waiting their arrival !!

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s – we had lots of Dad’s and kids onboard today and what a beautiful sunny and calm day off Coolangatta this morning.  Once again, those magnificant Humpbacks didn’t let us down, a pod of two, happily cruising south, rolling and relaxing, then one other whale joined them, this unusual whale had half a tail, very well healed and a very active smaller whale, probably around 4 years old.  They cruised in a circle for about an hour, happy enjoying the day, off in the distance another two pods and another pod in closer to Coolangatta, all moving south.  Our pod of three eventually decided we were friendly and came to the boat, much to the ejoyment of everyone onboard – especially me !!!  They rolled over, spy hoped, two together !! swam under and around the boat – very exciting.  No sign of any calves coming through yet.

Sea and weather conditions prevented trips last Thur, Fri and Saturday.  Today was sensational.  Hope you all like the pic
