2009 May | Aquatic Blue Charters

The whale watching season has commenced – the humpback whales are on their way up the east coast of Australia and within the next two days (Sat 30th and Sun 31st May 2009) you will start to see them passing our shores off Coolangatta/Tweed Heads.  LET THE SHOW BEGIN !!!!

The whales have been spotted in reasonable numbers off the coast south of the boarder into New South Wales mid north coast area about 4 days ago, it takes them about 5 days to get here from there, so we are anxiously awaiting their arrival.  There has been a steady flow on the mid north coast now for several days.

This coming Monday 1st June 2009 we head out on our first trip for the season and I can’t wait to see my first humpback for the season from our boat  ‘Whale Watcher’- the excitement is building – that first THERE SHE BLOWS !!! will be music to my ears ! and the sound of their blow as they come to the surface for air  – a total joy it will be to see them again.

Whale Watching Cruises will run daily from the Coolangatta/Tweed Heads Golf Club, departing at 9am and 1.30pm, we guarantee that you will see whales on every trip, make your dreams come true and join us for an adventure of a life time – humpback whales just waiting to meet you.

Keep your eye on my posts every day and see the magic unfold before your eyes.

This has been Carol the ‘Whale Women’ until tomorrow – hopefully I can tell you that we have seen our first  group of whales passing by !!!

Here it is mid May and the first whales have been spotted off the Gold Coast - Yippee !!!  We are anxiously awaiting their arrival in larger numbers so that our whale watching adventures  out of Coolangatta/Tweed Heads can commence.  Cruises will start late May and continue through until the end of October.

On this northern migration we will see the one year old Humpback calves taking their first journey north to the breading grounds with their mothers, this may be their last journey with Mum, as she may be ready to bread again and this means the calf will be left on it’s own !!

We will see the frisky bulls happily speeding towards the breading grounds – we may even hear their mating calls – this will blow you away - we drop the hyrophone over the side and may even hear them singing!!  We are hoping to see Migaloo this year, as he is about due to hug the eastern coastline.  Migaloo usually travels past Coolangatta mid to late June each year, whether it be out wide or closer to the coastline – cross our fingers and hope he travels close this year and we get to see him.

Can’t wait for their return – have missed them!

This has been Carol – the Whale Women until my next report.
