Today being Saturday 29th May, we were to journey out to find our first humpback whale for the season.  We did not get there ! much to my dismay and dissappointment – we awoke to high seas, rough and woolly conditions, rainy and cold – this was not suitable conditions to go whale watching.  When you can’t see through the rain you can’t see the whales – so due to our customer care policy we cancelled.  The wind just didn’t give up all morning and as they morning passed conditions got worse – so yes lucky we cancelled!  Sorry to all of you that were on the trip, but we hope you come again when the conditions are nicer.

So no whales today, we will try again tomorrow

Friday 28th May 2010

Hi everyone, it’s hotting up here on the Gold Coast, the excitement is building and it’s one more day until this little whale women is back on the high seas with the love of her life, other than my husband and children of course, those magnificent Humpback Whales.  We have seen the odd one or two going by Coolangatta, they have been around that 4 nautical miles offshore. What a sight when I saw my first blow this week, anyone would have thought I had won the lottery up there at  Duranbah – yippee !! they’re back!!!

We head out tomorrow at 9am to get our first taste of the magnificent mammals for the first time in 2010, I will have the video and still camera ready, I will post these onto the site tomorrow afternoon.

Just got off the phone from a mate in Sydney from True Blue Cruises and they have been seeing whales this week, even got a couple of Minke Whales on Monday, so they are definately coming through now.  There’s been heaps of sightings down the coast over the last couple of weeks, now it’s our turn.

We have trips running every day – see you out there

This has been the Whale Women until tomorrows report!!

One week to go !!! yippee here it is the 21st May 2010 and a week tomorrow we will take our first journey out to see the Humpback Whales for 2010.  We have yet to see any great movement from the Humpbacks, though there have been reports of them passing by, we guess they are out wide in the current, that will be no problem for us, as we have a fast comfortable boat that will enable us to travel out to where they are with ease.  Though in one week a lot changes, by next Saturday we should start seeing more from the shore.

Sydney has started their trips already, so they are definately coming, no trips further north from the Gold Coast have started the season, so when we start next week, I guess the rest will follow.

The very day that I see my first 2010 humpback whale, I will be on here letting you know.

The dive shop is now open here in Coolangatta, people are just starting to realise that we are here, we have some fantastic dive gear for sale and will start running dive courses and first aid courses very soon, people are already starting to book in for their courses.

This has been Carol ‘The Whale Women’ starting to get excited about the upcoming whale watching season.

on-side-fin-in-air  Hello from one big friendly humpback

The weather is cooling  here on the Gold Coast and that means WHALES WHALES WHALES my heart is jumping with joy as I hear from the south that my most favourite thing in the world are on their !!!  Yes that’s right the Humpback Whales are on the move.

We should start to see the odd Humpback whale coming past Coolangatta,  Gold Coast within one week, along with the Pilot Whales that always come first, I think they guide the Humpbacks to their destination in far North Queensland, hence the name ‘Pilot’ whales !!!  I wonder if that is true !!!

We are all geared up for another great season, should be as good if not better than last year and 2009 was a hum dinger with heaps and heaps of beautiful humpbacks and plenty of personal encounters with my magic friends.

I will let you know the minute I spot the first one coming through, or if one of you happen to see them first, let me know by emailing me or giving me a ring, cause I will be excited – !!!!!

The shop in Coolangatta is coming along great, it is called Cooly Dive as we have expanded our business now into the Dive market, as the diving around these parts is simply fantastic.  The shop will double as a whale watching shop during the season, come on down and say hello.

Hope we see Migaloo again this year, he should be on time and go past from the last 2 weeks in June to the 1st week in July from all previous records, we will keep you informed.  A boat load of lucky people got to see him last year with us!!!

This has been Carol ‘The Whale Women’ until next time – couple of photo’s to wet your appetite !!!
