Well my day has arrived and what a magnificant day it has been – once again I am out there with my beautiful whales and yes for our first day out we saw WHALES !!! as we would !!!
Earlier this morning I could see a couple of pods travelling close together, it was a cow and calf from last year times two, so we had two mums and two bubs happily playing and chasing each other all over the ocean. They were around 5 miles off shore – fantastic stuff.
Our trip this morning, we had 3 adult humpbacks just happy swimming north, we came across them at 9.30am and stayed with them until 10.40am and in this time they had moved from 4.5 miles out to 9 miles in the end, so slowly heading out to sea past Stradbroke Island, as they do. We had tail lobbing and tail flicks and plenty of surface time, so all in all a great day out with the whales and we are off to a great start. Let’s hope that we can get through the entire season once again with a 100% success rate – now that I would be very impressed with that would make it 6 years straight !!! Here’s hoping.
This has been Carol the ‘Whale Women’ until next time.
